Meet the Team . . .

Adena Mai-Jardine
Adena has been in the
fitness and wellness
field for over 17 years.
While obtaining her
Recreation Administra-
tion degree, she
received her group exercise certification and began teaching a variety of fitness classes. Adena's fitness experience and motivating personality led her to become one of the first certified personal fitness trainers in the Edmonton area (Chris and Adena took the personal fitness training course together!). Adena has continued her wellness journey and is now a therapeutic massage therapist working at the Chiropractic Health & Wellness Clinic in Devon. She believes that balance is the key to wellness and can be achieved through a combination of physical activity, healthy eating and stress management. Adena teaches spin classes at Merriott Fitness and wants her participants to not only sweat (J!), but to enjoy the experience of challenging their bodies and have fun! What does she do for fun?…triathlons and cooking!

Erik Hanzen
Erik's love for Yoga started in 1995 when he was living in Boulder, Colorado and working for an Ayur-Vedic herbal store. He began his basic Yoga practice to complement his active athletic lifestyle, which at the time included running, rock climbing, mountain biking and snowboarding.
Erik now combines his formal education in Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, and Ayur-Vedic Medicine with his athletic background and love for Truth to create a unique way to explore the depths of Self through the movement, breath and philosophy of Yoga.
Erik received his traditional Yoga
training from Yogi Vishvketu of
Rishikesh, India. The system
taught by Yogi Vishvketu is
classical Raja Yoga that is based
on the 2000 year old Yoga Sutras
of Patanjali. This yogic system is
a very balanced form of yoga
combining meditation, pranayama,
chanting and the practice of asana (postures) which opens the practitioner to return to our natural state of peace. During his training, Erik was given the name Bhakti Prakash meaning "light of devotion". This devotion can be seen in his love for spreading the light of yoga to others. Erik has also completed an additional 200 hour yoga training through Trinity Yoga and is a certified yoga instructor through the Yoga Alliance, an internationally recognized Yoga certification board. This education has provided him with a solid foundation to continue his journey of self-discovery while assisting his students to deepen and expand their own. Erik is also a certified personal trainer and nutritionist, enabling him to provide his students with a wide range of information to support a balanced lifestyle.
Chris Merriott
A healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone of Chris's philosophy and practice. She believes that fitness should be fun and enjoyable part of your daily living - not just something you do at a gym. While regular weight training and cardiovascular workouts are an important part of achieving and maintaining your health and fitness goals, Chris encourages her clients to participate in a wide variety of physical and mental activities. Chris's approach to nutrition, the other critical component of a healthy life style, is about eating - not dieting. Food is not only essential to sustain life but it's also one of life's pleasures.
Making healthy choices in both what and how much we eat, while enjoying the occasional treat is key to having a positive relationship with food and sustaining long term health. Chris received her formal training at Mount Royal College in 1998.
